GREEN SHORES LEVEL 1

This one-day workshop introduces participants to the Green Shores program, including its rationale, benefits, and application. The content is of interest to elected officials, landowners, municipal staff, conservation organizations, real estate agents, and others who have a general interest in shoreline ecosystem protection. Topics covered include an overview of shoreline ecology and governance, followed by an introduction to the Green Shores credit and rating system. A visit to local shorelines allows participants to consider the concepts in a practical setting. The workshop concludes with a guided group discussion around how to implement key concepts and put new learning into practice.

This workshop is offered free of charge thanks to sponsorship by our government partners, the Sitka Foundation, and the Real Estate Foundation BC.

Green Shores Policy and Regulatory Tools for Local Government

Thursday, Nov. 16 | 11:00am to 12:00pm | Free

Interested in bringing Green Shores to your community? This one-hour free webinar will outline a framework (including Shoreline Classification, Official Community Plan policies and objectives, Development Permit Area guidelines, and Zoning provisions) to organize local government action and support implementation on the ground on public and private land.

It will also highlight key points from the recently updated “Green Shores Policy and Regulatory Tools for Local Governments” guidebook. Considerations related to a changing climate, including the impacts of sea level rise and more extreme weather events, will also be flagged.

A case study of local government action in the Powell River Regional District will share lessons learned, and information about how local governments can join a BC Green Shores working group will be provided.

Green Shores Level 2

This two-day workshop provides participants with in-depth knowledge about how the Green Shores credit and rating systems can be used in shoreline management projects. The first day of the workshop begins with a review of shoreline ecosystems including threats and issues, management and restoration strategies, and regulatory structures in place. The Green Shores program, including benefits to stakeholders, steps for implementation, and credit systems, are also covered. The second day of the workshop focuses on application of the Green Shores credit and ratings systems through a series of desktop and field exercises. The workshop concludes with a guided group discussion around how to implement key concepts and put new learning into practice.

Green Shores for Homes

A large part of the Green Shores program is to provide educational workshops about greener options for shoreline concerns like erosion and flood protection. Workshop participants learned about Green Shores for Homes tools and discussed community options with their neighbours and other shoreline partners.
