Inside Green Shores Training
Spotlight on Green Shores training 2021
Green Shores training helps to promote understanding of Green Shores as a framework for nature-based solutions and to build capacity among shoreline practitioners who work around coastal and lake settings.
The courses are of benefit to professionals (e.g. biologists, coastal engineers, planners, landscape architects, environmental consultants, developers and contractors), local, provincial and federal government staff, elected officials, landowners, conservation and stewardship organizations, real estate agents, and those with a general interest in shoreline ecosystem protection.
In 2021, Green Shores training has been offered in multiple formats: virtual, in-person, and as a hybrid offering. Locations have included sites in and around the Capital Regional District on Vancouver Island, Bowen Island, Surrey on the mainland, and the Maritimes.
Green Shores - Level 1
Green Shores Level 1 (GS L1) is a one‑day course that introduces participants to the Green Shores program, including its rationale, benefits, and application.
One offering of GS L1, was in July 2021 through the University of Victoria (UVic), in Victoria, BC. The half day morning session held in the classroom of UVic provided opportunities for participants to learn more about the principles of Green Shores, to do hands-on exercises, and to benefit from the diverse backgrounds of those attending. In the afternoon, participants attended a field session at nearby Cadboro Bay Beach. The focus was on working in small groups to apply Green Shores project design concepts with the opportunity to share ideas with the larger group.
