"Rising Seas and Shifting Sands: Combining Natural and Grey Infrastructure to Protect Canada’s Eastern and Western Coastal Communities"
On December 9, 2021, a report “Rising Seas and Shifting Sands: Combining Natural and Grey Infrastructure to Protect Canada’s Eastern and Western Coastal Communities” was released by the Intact Centre on Climate Change at the University of Waterloo. The report promotes the application of natural infrastructure wherever possible, to enhance shoreline resiliency to climate change.
The Stewardship Centre for BC has been working with the Intact Centre at the University of Waterloo since 2018, on projects that advance understanding and awareness of nature-based solutions. The Stewardship Centre was able to provide input to this report and feature a Green Shores®-certified New Brighton Park Shoreline Habitat Restoration Project in Vancouver (awarded Green Shores® for Shoreline Development “Gold” Rating in 2018). Green Shores® is a program of the Stewardship Centre for BC that offers training, credits and ratings guides and project certification for projects on marine and lake shorelines that use nature-based approaches and green infrastructure for shoreline development.
