Protecting the Shoreline: A Shared Responsibility

Island shorelines hold immense ecological and cultural value. As climate change in the  Islands Trust Area results in more extreme storms and sea level rise, the need to protect the shoreline is critical. This session will teach participants about coastal climate impacts, clam gardens as sites of cultural revitalization, and what individuals can do to promote shoreline health.

Participants will learn about the Green Shores® program, which was designed to help waterfront landholders restore natural shorelines using science-based tools and best practices to minimize the impacts of new development and view brand-new data from the shoreline hardening mapping initiative led by the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
