This report addresses the potential to focus, or perhaps refocus, public concern on the protection of a constant, sustainable habitat. This report highlights the small stream habitat that is particularly threatened by the impacts of settlement. There is a vast network of small streams, ditches, and wetlands close to where many of us live – streams where a good run of fish may number only a few hundred but which when multiplied a thousand fold adds up to the numbers needed for the survival of coho salmon, steelhead and cutthroat trout.
