Green Shores for Homes Guide Update: 2021 – 2023
Green Shores® provides practical strategies using nature‐based design criteria for shoreline projects and for the management and promotion of healthy shoreline environments – yet the program is underutilized – especially in the Maritimes.
Working with partners from Maritimes, British Columbia and Washington State, the project will update the Green Shores for Homes Credits and Ratings Guide for application on the Pacific and Atlantic shorelines, work with local governments in BC and Nova Scotia, and provide training to shoreline practitioners on both coasts.
Project Objective
Using a phased approach, this project will advance the Green Shores program and address a capacity, knowledge and skills gap to an audience of front‐line decision‐makers and practitioners in the Maritimes and British Columbia by
- Collaborating with technical specialists in the Maritimes and the Pacific coast to adapt the GSH program for the Maritimes and update guidance (GSH 2023 Credits and Ratings Guide, including a French translation of the guide)
- Establishing a Nova Scotia Local Government Working Group
- Providing Green Shores training to local governments, communities and shoreline practitioners.
Funder and Partners
Thanks to funding from the Canada Nature Fund (Environment and Climate Change Canada), the Stewardship Centre for BC will work along with its partners from the Maritimes, British Columbia and Washington State to update the Green Shores for Homes Guide (2015).
