Sustainable Agriculture Award to Honour Adrian Semmelink
Over the course of two summers, Adrian has worked with the SCBC and made a substantial contribution to SCBC’s Stewardship Practices project. His dedication, excellent work, kindness and generous support of this project have helped to advance the project and make an impact on stewardship work in agricultural landscapes across British Columbia.
Adrian has written “Implementing Stewardship Practices that Benefit Species at Risk: Perspectives from the Land” report that has been widely acknowledged and used for protecting endangered wildlife while caring for riparian habitats in agricultural areas.
Stewardship Centre for BC was saddened to hear about Adrian’s passing. Adrian will be missed by our members and will be remembered for his incredible enthusiasm, professionalism, contribution to our projects and aspiration for making a difference for better and healthier natural environments.
To honour Adrian Semmelink and in recognition of his dedication to sustainable agriculture practices, family and friends will be establishing an award in his name. The award will support students pursuing their Master’s or PhD in UBC’s Resources, Environment and Sustainability (RES) program with preference given to those whose studies focus on sustainable agriculture. Our goal is to establish either an annual award or an endowed award. The minimum amount to establish an annual award is $10,000 to be distributed in increments over 5-10 years. We will be able to endow Adrian’s award in perpetuity if we reach $50,000. The final use of funds will be determined by IRES in consultation with Adrian’s family.
