A multi-stakeholder committee (the Advisory Committee on Water Use Practice and Policy, or “committee”) was appointed by the Minister of Environment to review ways to improve the management of water related to underground injection. This committee has considered a wide range of information and viewpoints, and has concluded that additional measures are needed to protect Alberta”s non-saline waters. As part of a broader effort to conserve water, the committee believes a concerted effort must be made to reduce or eliminate, on a case-by-case basis, the use of non-saline water for underground injection.
