Green Shores for Homes Conservation Fiscal Incentive Pilot Project
Led by the Stewardship Centre for BC, the ‘Green Shores for Homes Conservation Fiscal Incentive Pilot Project‘ provides shoreline homeowners with financial support to improve nearshore habitat and coastal processes on their marine- or lakefront properties.
This project is delivered under the collaborative Conservation Fiscal Incentives Program of the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship and partner NGOs in British Columbia (see partners below).
Project Objectives:
- To pilot the application of financial incentives for private property owners interested in applying nature-based solutions for shoreline restoration on their waterfront.
- To offer and assess the effectiveness of two financial incentives: a rebate, which provides reimbursement upon full Green Shores for Homes certification; and cost-share funding, to be provided in installments upon the completion of project milestones.
- To share information about the benefits of nature-based Green Shores shoreline practices, support landowners in the application of nature-based solutions (NbS) and reduce the financial barrier of NbS application.
Project Location and Duration
This project takes place on the east coast of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands (British Columbia) from 2023 to 2028.
