We are updating the Green Shores for Homes Guide
Green Shores® provides practical strategies using nature‐based design criteria for shoreline projects and for the management and the promotion of healthy shoreline environments – yet the program is underutilized – especially in the Maritimes.
Working with various Maritime, British Columbia and Washington State partners, the Stewardship Centre for BC will adapt and test a program designed to incentivize protection and improvement of ecosystem function and processes, in particular for species at risk, for shorelines with single‐family waterfront homes along lake and marine coasts.
Green Shores for Homes Credits and Ratings Guide 2023
The Green Shores for Homes Credits and Ratings Guide (2015) is a tool for waterfront homeowners and their contractors to develop their properties in a shore friendly way that meets the Green Shores principles. The Green Shores for Homes guide (2023) will update the existing Green Shores for Homes guide for application in the Maritimes, British Columbia and Washington State.
Thanks to funding from the Canada Nature Fund (Environment and Climate Change Canada), the project will address gaps, strengthen knowledge and develop guidance, resources and training to enable action for the application of nature‐based adaptation solutions on Pacific and Atlantic shorelines. Using a phased approach to enable a strategic, deliberate and iterative process of development and learning, this project will advance the Green Shores program and address a capacity, knowledge and skills gap to an audience of front‐line decision‐makers and practitioners in the Maritimes and British Columbia.
