Green Shores Level 1
Green Shores Level 1 training introduces participants to the Green Shores program, including its rationale, benefits, and application. The content is of interest to elected officials, landowners, municipal staff, conservation organizations, real estate agents, and others who have a general interest in shoreline ecosystem protection.
Topics covered include an overview of shoreline ecology and governance and an introduction to the Green Shores credit and rating system. Participants consider the concepts in a practical setting during a visit to local shorelines. The workshop concludes with a guided group discussion about how to implement key concepts and put new learning into practice.
This training is offered as a workshop delivered in-person through the University of Victoria: Green Shores Level 1 Program | Continuing Studies at UVic
The course is also available online (on-demand) through the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT): https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/renr1720
Green Shores Level 2
Prerequisites: Green Shores Level 1
This two-day workshop provides participants with in-depth knowledge about how the Green Shores credit and rating systems can be used in shoreline management projects. The content will interest professionals (biologists, engineers, planners, landscape architects) and contractors, local and regional government staff, and others seeking to implement the Green Shores program for shoreline improvement, new design or development, or other related shoreline projects.
This training is delivered in-person through the University of Victoria: https://continuingstudies.uvic.ca/science-and-ecological-restoration/courses/green-shorestm-training-program-level-2-workshop
It is occasionally offered through BCIT’s Burnaby Campus: Green Shores Level 2 (RENR 1730) – BCIT

Green Shores Level 3: Professional Proficiency
Prerequisites: Green Shores Level 1; Green Shores Level 2.
This online course is intended for planning, design and construction professionals such as biologists, landscape architects, engineers, geoscientists, planners, contractors and others with expertise and experience in applying Green Shores principles who are interested in proving their proficiency. Those who are successful and pass this portfolio-based course will be listed on the Stewardship Centre for British Columbia’s website as a Green Shores Approved Professional. This course will not gauge experience and proficiency in a chosen profession. Rather, it will gauge the ability to apply the Green Shores credits and rating systems within the context of a chosen profession by creating a Green Shores Professional Proficiency portfolio that shows familiarity and skill with the Green Shores program.
