Green Shores® in Nova Scotia
With support from the Stewardship Centre for BC (SCBC), the Green Shores chapter in the Maritimes is coordinated by the SCBC’s partner TransCoastal Adaptations (TCA): Centre for Nature-Based Solutions in Nova Scotia.
TransCoastal Adaptations: Centre for Nature-Based Solutions is a solutions-focused, applied centre of expertise at Saint Mary’s University (SMU). Their mission is to help build climate-resilient coastal communities and ecosystems by protecting, enhancing, and restoring natural processes through innovative research and collaboration. With over 20 years of experience, their team is composed of leading experts on coastal restoration and nature-based adaptation, as well as students gaining experience in these areas. They value engaging researchers, stakeholders, and local communities through their climate change-related projects and take an integrated-solutions approach supported by partnerships with academics, industry, NGO and government groups.
Collaborative Partnership
The Green Shores (GS) partnership between the Stewardship Centre for BC and TransCoastal Adaptations started in 2020. The two organizations share common ground in promoting and applying nature-based solutions to protect, maintain and restore natural habitat that benefits people, wildlife and the environment. Together SCBC and TCA are working to build awareness and promote the Green Shores program in the Maritimes, adapting it to the Atlantic Coast.
GS Chapter in Nova Scotia offers Green Shores resources, training (GS Level 1 and 2), a Green Shores Local Government Working Group and support for Green Shores for Homes and Green Shores for Shoreline Development projects.
