Meet Bryna, our new Cats and Birds Outreach and Engagement Coordinator in Vancouver!
We are beyond excited to have Bryna Turk join our Cats and Birds team this fall.
Bryna (she/they) is an undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia completing a BSc in Applied Animal Biology. She is joining the SCBC team with a strong background in animal welfare and husbandry, and a passion for science education and outreach.
Having worked extensively with wild and domestic birds in both wildlife rehab and veterinary settings, she has witnessed the first-hand effects of cats on wild birds. As a cat owner herself, she hopes to combine diverse perspectives to increase awareness of the effects of feral and roaming cat populations on wildlife.
As a Cats and Birds Outreach and Engagement coordinator, Bryna Coordinates the targeted outreach campaign in the Greater Vancouver area to inform the public of the free-roaming cat issue and to make communities a safer place for cats, birds, other wildlife and people.
Bryna works out of East Vancouver, which is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam) Hul’qumi’num, Stz’uminus, S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.
You can reach Bryna at brynaturk@gmail.com.
