In April 2003, Irving Pulp and Paper was recognized for their pollution prevention efforts in the Commission for Environmental Co-operation’s report on pollution releases and transfers in North America. Between 1995 and 2000, the pulp mill created a pollution prevention strategy that decreased their on-site surface water discharges by over 80%, preventing a number of harmful chemicals, such as endocrine disrupting compounds, from entering the aquatic ecosystem.
