The Green Point Project was verified as GSH Level 2: Orca!
We are thrilled to announce that the Green Point Project in Cowichan Bay has received a Level 2: Orca designation of Green Shores for Homes certification!
“After living in an urban environment for over 20 years, we decided as a family to relocate and live close to nature. Upon moving from Vancouver, British Columbia to Vancouver Island, a chance visit to a historic and beautiful ecosystem in Cowichan Bay, inspired us to make this a live-work place that would eventually become The Green Point Project. “- Kenneth Chooi, Fiona McLagan and their sons William and Freddy.
The second-ever project verified as GSH Orca in BC!
The Green Point Project gained 43 points with full points achieved in the Shore Stewardship Credit because of the extensive public information and education provided and ongoing collaboration with other shoreline agencies such as the Cowichan Estuary Restoration and Conservation Association (CERCA).
GSH “ORCA”
The project exhibits an exceptional environmental design that promotes conservation of the natural features and processes of the shoreline and rewilding of the sensitive upland ecosystems.
The newly constructed home has been also designed to achieve certification as a Passive House and Living Building Challenge design. It was constructed on a reduced area of the former building footprint and set slightly further back from the riparian area. All large trees overhanging the riparian area were protected during construction, and these continue to provide important biomass for small fish and other shoreline biota.
