Welcome Jane to our Green Shores team!
Here is a warm welcome to Jane Yangel who joins SCBC’s Green Shores team as a Green Shores Intern through the Biodiversity Research: Integrative Training and Education (BRITE) program at the University of British Columbia.
Jane is a recent graduate of the University of British Columbia (UBC)’s Master of Science program in the Zoology department. Jane’s thesis was focused on freshwater microbes, key indicators of ecosystem health and functioning, and how they were impacted by warming temperatures in habitats with a different degree of connectivity. Jane has over four years of experience in research, laboratory and fieldwork, working with local non-for-profits and environmental outreach. She is very passionate about the conservation, preservation of biodiversity and the health of our ecosystems.
I am excited to get an opportunity to work with the Stewardship Centre for BC and leverage my scientific background, ecological training and skills to work on a Green Shores project that is designed to benefit the environment. I look forward to meeting the team and collaborating with colleagues involved in providing nature-based solutions and making a positive change! – Jane Yangel
This summer, Jane will be developing a monitoring protocol to measure and assess the benefits of the Green Shores for Homes program that uses nature-based solutions for shoreline management. In addition, Jane will be conducting on-the-ground piloting of the GSH credits and help quantify the value of ecosystem services provided by the program. You can reach Jane at jane.s.yangel@gmail.com.
