Green Shores Dyke Road Park Feasibility Study
The Green Shores – Dyke Road Park Feasibility Study was prepared by the Comox Valley Project Watershed Society in March 2022 to determine if Dyke Road Park (Courtney, BC) would be a good candidate for the application of the Green Shores for Shoreline Development (GSSD) credits and ratings system – specifically a project that would achieve a Gold level certification, support salmon habitat and serve as a demonstration site outreach and education about the application of the GSSD principles.
The report was produced as part of the Strengthening Adoption of Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Adaptation and Shoreline Resilience in British Columbia project 2021-2026 (aka Resilient Coasts for Salmon), a project of the Pacific Salmon Foundation in collaboration with the Stewardship Centre for BC and multiple partners on Vancouver Island.

As part of this inventory, authors reviewed background reports and studies, completed site visits, habitat inventories and mapping exercises. This study determined that the park could be redeveloped from a Green Shores approach to meet the five prerequisites outlined in the Green Shores for Shoreline Development Credits and Ratings Guide.
This report also provided recommendations and suggested strategies for the Dyke Road Park Demonstration Site to achieve a Gold level project rating. In addition, it noted vital areas to be included in this project to support high values habitat for salmon rearing, refuge and foraging opportunities. Finally, the report identified that the Duke Road Park site would make a good demonstration site for the Green Shores methodology, providing public access and educational opportunities.
